In 2020 during imposed restrictions it was noted that the garden was looking a little neglected. On closer inspection it could be seen that the main rose border was suffering as a result of time-restricted care.
Adrian Miles approached Fife Council with the backing of local Councillors to see if we could renovate the roses, replenish the main bed and add further roses to provide interest, colour and scent. Newburgh had recently lost the roses that used to grow in St. Katherine’s Court when that area was refurbished. This is now the only formal planting area.
Over 100 additional roses are now growing happily in the garden, just over 80 new, chosen for their scent, colour and being able to withstand the local weather. An additional 20 have been donated. Planting, pruning, feeding, mulching, dead-heading and weeding of the rose beds is all done by volunteers. We also edge and weed the annual beds and maintain the planters.
